Strokkur Geysir is a fountain type geyser located beside the Hvita River in Iceland, east of Reykjavik. It normally erupts every 6-10 minutes at about a height of 49 to 66 ft.

It was created after an earthquake aided in the unblocking the conduit of th geyser in the late 1700s. It was estimated to have reached a height of 200 ft at its peak but another earthquake blocked the conduit at the turn of the 20th century.  It wasn’t until 1963 that it was cleaned out and unblocked by the locals at the behest of the Geysir Committee.

It has been the main attraction ever since the Geysir stopped erupting.

Access to the geyser is completely free so join us on our Iceland group tour now!
