The Heart of South America

February 26th – March 6th, 2027 (1 Spot Left!)
Stretching from the Caribbean to the Pacific, Colombia is South America’s only nation blessed with coastlines on both oceans — a country of extraordinary diversity where salsa spills into the streets, coffee grows on emerald hillsides, and football is woven into daily life. Beyond the celebrated energy of Bogotá, Medellín, and Cartagena lies a rich tapestry of colonial towns, colorful villages, lush mountain landscapes, and laid-back Caribbean islands fringed by white sand and turquoise water. This PhototFly Travel Club journey blends Colombia’s iconic highlights with immersive, lesser-known experiences designed to bring us closer to the country’s warm, resilient, and endlessly welcoming people. Along the way, there will be no shortage of photographic moments — from vibrant street scenes and dramatic landscapes to intimate cultural encounters — creating a collection of images and memories that will linger long after the trip ends.
Bogotá
Perched high in the Andes, Colombia’s sprawling capital, Bogotá, is a city of contrasts — where centuries-old colonial facades stand beside modern cafés, buzzing markets, and an ever-evolving creative scene. The historic district of La Candelaria forms the city’s atmospheric heart, its cobbled lanes and colorful balconies alive with street art, local life, and travelers drawn to its bohemian energy. Just beyond lie the grand plazas and government buildings surrounding Plaza Bolívar, anchored by the imposing Catedral Primada.Bogotá’s cultural offerings are equally compelling. Museums are scattered across the city, none more celebrated than the remarkable Gold Museum, home to one of the world’s finest collections of pre-Columbian gold artifacts. Towering above the city, the sanctuary atop Monserrate rewards visitors with sweeping views across the immense urban landscape and surrounding mountains.
Beyond the capital, the Andean highlands reveal even more treasures. The sacred waters of Lake Guatavita, inspiration for the legend of El Dorado, offer a glimpse into Colombia’s indigenous past, while the subterranean marvel of Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá remains one of the country’s most extraordinary architectural feats. Nearby, the windswept páramo landscapes and misty forests of Chingaza National Natural Park provide a dramatic escape into Colombia’s wild natural beauty.

Medellín
Once notorious and now celebrated as one of Latin America’s most innovative cities, Medellín has reinvented itself with creativity, resilience, and unmistakable energy. Nicknamed the “City of Eternal Spring” for its year-round mild climate,
Medellín blends vibrant plazas, colorful neighborhoods, and a thriving cultural scene with warm, welcoming locals. By day, explore lively markets, street art, and hillside communities; by night, the city comes alive with music, cafés, and an infectious social atmosphere. Surrounded by lush green mountains, Medellín also offers easy access to nature, scenic viewpoints, and countless opportunities for both urban exploration and outdoor adventure.
* From Drug Capital to Cultural Wonderland: Back in the early 90's, hunting down Pablo Escobar, the head of Medellin's drug cartel, was at its peak. Our guide will focus on the incredible transformation and history of Medellín, from one of the most dangerous cities in the world to the “City of Eternal Spring”!
The shadow of Pablo Escobar once loomed large over Medellín, but the city’s story today is one of remarkable transformation. Beginning in the early 2000s, ambitious investments in public transportation, education, and urban renewal helped reshape Medellín into one of Latin America’s most forward-thinking cities. Innovative architecture, revitalized neighborhoods, and community-driven projects now stand as powerful symbols of resilience and renewal, making Medellín one of the world’s most compelling examples of urban reinvention.

Along the mainland, Cartagena enchants visitors with its beautifully preserved walled city, flower-draped balconies, and imposing seaside fortifications.
