Arnarstapi is a fishing village that can be found of the southern side of Snæfellsnes peninsula. It’s now a popular stop-over before going through Snæfellsjökull National Park. The area is known for it’s stunning scenery of quaint old houses with interesting stories to tell.
It is also located at the foot of Mt Stapafell. This volcanic mountain is 526 meters high and at the top, you can find Fellskross. It is a rock that is believed to be the dwelling place of elves or “hidden people” at the times of the viking.
The village is also the center of various local activities and other natural attractions. There’s a hiking trail near Nedstavatn Lake where the trail leads across the lava and along the beach between Arnarstapi and Hellnar. This hour long trail is quite scenic and a fairly easy walk.
