Our travel club just returned from our first India group tour and of the many highlights, the Taj Mahal did not disappoint. We got to witness this great architectural wonder of the world two days in a row; first from across the river with excellent afternoon light followed by the sunset and the next day inside the complex to explore in and around this great tomb of love. It rained a bit on the second morning but that didn’t stop us from getting great photographs of the Taj like this one and beautiful colors of the marble dome during sunset the day before. The massive mausoleum was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is constructed with the finest white marble in the world quarried from the neighboring modern Indian state of Rajasthan. So much more of this great country to explore. We can’t wait to go back!
