Just as 2019 was ending, the largest ever parasitic flower in West Sumatra made its mark at 44 inches in diameter. This is the Rafflesia tuan-mudae, or corpse flower as it is more commonly known because of the remarkable stench it gives off when it blooms. This smell is meant to attract flies which is their main pollinator.
These flowers are common sights in Sumatra and Borneo. These blooms are definitely a sight to behold but its bloom only last a week before it dies.
