The “White Continent” is covered in ice so it can be a shock to learn that the giant landmass is actually a desert. Even more shocking is the recent 2020 discovery by an Edinburgh University research team that there are 91 volcanoes under solid ice 2.5 miles deep! The new discovery in West Antarctica has added 44 more volcanoes to the total previously discovered. That’s quite a jump! And, in case you were wondering, the photo above we took on our travel club’s 2019 adventure is not a volcano, just one of the thousands of incredible mountain peaks.
There is so much Antarctica has to offer on our Antarctica group tours. Join us on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure!
