Safari holidays are a popular type of holiday activity in Africa where it involves watching wild animals in their natural habitat. Kenya claims to have started the first commercial safari holiday. This led to a form of recreational activity, game hunting, which caused animal population to diminish which caused people to turn to viewing animals instead.
Safari holidays are now the most important source of revenue for several African countries like Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia and Namibia.
These safari vary from small seasonal tented camps to larger, permanent structures with over a hundred rooms. Game viewing drives can be done on foot, horseback or in 4×4 vehicles depending on the terrain and animals being viewed.
Safaris are on many people’s bucket list and often the goal is to see the Big Five which comprises of the elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion and rhino.
