Travel Photo of the Day: Seljalandsfoss

Seljalandsfoss is a popular waterfall that can be fully encircled in the summer and it can be found in the river Seljalandsá, about 30 km west of Skógar. It is located on the South Coast of Iceland with a height of 60 meters or 200 feet. There’s a footpath behind it at the bottom of the cliff with a thin cascade and very picturesque.

If you plan to visit at night, when the midnight sun is not out, you’ll be happy to know that floodlights have been set up on both sides of the waterfall, which impressively illuminate the scenery. These floodlights were installed in 2001 due to the growing popularity of the falls as a tourist destination.

After visiting the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, it is common for visitors to continue north to the waterfall Gljúfrabúi.  It can be found partially hidden behind a rock face. Due to the extreme popularity of Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi is now widely considered the hidden gem of this scenery, as it is too often overlooked.
