The Seychelles Packing List

Below are some general packing tips and information. Please read the luggage requirements and travel insurance information carefully.

Soft-sided luggage or duffels are preferable to hard luggage for storage on safari vehicles. Large suitcases of dimensions greater than 27″ cannot be stored in vehicles and should not be used. You will NOT be able to bring suitcases larger than the dimensions above and will sacrifice losing and/or storing over-sized luggage at the Johannesburg airport for the entire trip. Please pack light to avoid this issue and thank you for understanding! ** Camera gear bags which can pass as carry-on during flight are OK to bring in addition to other carry on size luggage.

Weather in Seychelles

The weather is one of the many things that makes the Seychelles such a special destination, all year round. With an average temperature of 84°F in June and a range that rarely drops below 75°F or rises above 90°F it is rarely too hot and almost always perfect beach weather.

Of course, like anywhere in the tropics it does rain, but showers tend to be brief, lasting just a couple of hours, and are often localized to one island or even just one area of an island. *While temperatures are great, it can be very humid at times but we will be there during the “driest” time of year..

Money, Tips and Gratuitites

Seychelles:

1 USD = 13.7 SCR (Seychellois Rupee)

1 USD = .91 EUR

To get the best rates, use credit cards as much as possible (as long as they do not charge international fees), and get your local cash from ATMs. There are very few money changers on the islands so we do not recommend bringing most of your money in USD with the plan to exchange it for SCR on arrival.

*The Seychelles DO NOT accept USD in most situations BUT they LOVE THE EURO (EUR). Another option is to get EURO from ATMS or money changers instead of SCR.

Tips and gratuities for hotel house cleaning, porters, and drivers & guide(s) are expected in the travel industry when with a group. Budget approx. $ 2.00 – $ 4.00 per person per day for lodge and hotel staff, $ 1.00 per bag for porters, $ 8.00 – $ 12.00 per person per day for our local guide, and $ 3.00- $5.00 per day for our driver. Tips are optional but we highly encourage them if you feel the service deserves it. *Note, you should tip in EUR or SCR, NOT USD while in the Seychelles.
